John’s varied experiences as a party, counsel and arbitrator in numerous dispute resolution procedures have equipped him with a deep appreciation of disputing parties’ expectations, fears and feelings when engaged in dispute resolution.
Since the mid 1980s, principally as a litigation partner at Chapman Tripp but more recently as Special Counsel at Clayton Utz (Australia) and in in-house roles for RPS and Worley Parsons (in Australia) and Beca and Housing New Zealand, John has dealt with all manner of residential construction and major infrastructure issues.
He has appeared in numerous arbitrations, mediations and expert determinations as counsel, party to the dispute (as in-house counsel) and occasionally as sole arbitrator for various parties including Air New Zealand, Transit NZ, Landco, NZ Rail and Housing New Zealand.
